Ben Bikman - Why We Get Sick: The Role of Metabolism in Health
Despite their differences, the most common and lethal chronic diseases all have one thing in common-they’re all caused or exacerbated by a metabolic condition known as insulin resistance. The purpose of this talk is to not only define insulin resistance and provide an appreciation for its prevalence, but also establish a clear series of cause and consequence of the disorder.

I have been carnivore for a while, practice time restricted eating and exercise. My ketone levels are still low. I don't understand it. I want to be in therapeutic ketosis for mental health issues and Dr Palmer says ketones should be 1.6 to 2 to see benefits. I can't get anywhere near that. Also, I used to take Mct oil, did nothing for my levels. Any idea why they could be still so low?

I’m almost at the hour mark and I know one test is high. The doctors give everyone so if my fasting blood sugar is high I know I need help and I don’t need to take and spend money on all these other subtle test. I was just there for people who want to make sure their Everything is good. Once something is bad you know you need help. I think that he’s going to suggest the keto diet for everything.

The kidney stone risk it a little misleading. You don't get stones from a ketogenic way of eating. The stones that you already have will start to shrink and can move and become troublesome. As long as you stay away from oxalate rich foods.

I’m on the ketogenic diet and fully believe in it based on my results. I’ve tried to convince my children of its benefits but they are resistant to change. My son did raise a valid question. If everyone switched to the keto or carnivore diet could the world support the number of animals needed to feed everyone? I didn’t know the answer. Of course, if you feel animals are a large part of global climate change, as many young people do, they want less animals, not more.

Consider this response to those who think we cannot sustain high keto / meat diets worldwide: God created us and sustains us ultimately. He designed our bodies to heal given the necessary, healthy input. Different planet biomes exist to support that area's population in different ways. Fruits, vegs, nuts, seeds, meats. Mankind has distorted that plan and decided, based largely on profit margins and greed, what we should eat, what lands should be used for growing vs grazing. Many have been Bad Decisions by mankind. Greed has created bad chemicals that are tainting our food and water sources for the sake of more industry, food production and easier harvesting...at the expense of poisoned harvests!! Not good. Our planet can regenerate the healthy foods everyone needs without all the chemicals, fake food products, unhealthy animal husbandry. Everyone, including our governments , needs to look out for the next guy, do their part and examine the sin in their part of distorting our food supply, and quit trying to reduce our world population to fit the goals of the elites. God will let mankind faulter if we do not keep up our end of the bargain only to a point. Then He will do His own Great Reset to teach us who is in charge again just as he Has throughout history. People need to quit just accepting the status quo and stand up for what is right and just for All Mankind! Love one another as God has loved us. Pretty simple. Wake up world!!

Doc, If protein has such little effect on insulin, then why does eating a lot of very lean protein and no carbs get me out of ketosis? If I eat a lot of fat with my protein, then I can get into ketosis. Maybe I'm an unusual case, but protein does have a big measurable effect on my ketosis. By ketosis I mean greater than .5mmol/L of ketones. I have not measured my insulin, but insulin is what takes people out of ketosis.

Why is insulin "bad"? Type I diabetics die without it. Insulin resistance is pathologic, and is due to damaged insulin receptors from chronic hyperglycemia induced tissue glycosylation, overly "stuffed" fat cells, along with free radical damage from incorporation of polyunsaturated fats into cellular and mitochondrial membranes. Excess carbs and seed oil consumption are the primary etiology of metabolic dysfunction.
